Hat Yai is the main transit hub for southern Thailand — and Koh Lipe is the most popular island destination from here. The route always goes via Pak Bara pier in Satun province: a minivan or shared taxi from Hat Yai, then a speedboat across to the island. Total journey time is 3.5 to 5 hours depending on your starting point and which service you take.

ℹ️ The Hat Yai → Koh Lipe route runs October to May. In monsoon season (June–September) speedboat services are reduced or suspended. Pak Bara pier is the only year-round access point — but check current conditions before booking low season.
Step 1: Hat Yai to Pak Bara Pier
Pak Bara pier in Satun province is the only departure point for boats to Koh Lipe. From Hat Yai, you have three options to get there:
Shared Minivan (Recommended)
Shared minivans depart from Hat Yai Bus Terminal and Hat Yai Train Station throughout the morning — departures typically at 08:00 and 10:00. Journey time to Pak Bara is approximately 1.5–2 hours. Cost around 200–250 THB (~$6 USD). This is the cheapest and most common option — drivers coordinate with speedboat departure times.
Combined Van + Speedboat Ticket
Most travel agents and guesthouses in Hat Yai sell combined tickets covering the minivan to Pak Bara and the speedboat to Koh Lipe in one booking. Cost from 750–800 THB (~$21–22 USD) from Hat Yai town, or from 800 THB (~$22 USD) from Hat Yai Airport. This is the easiest option — no need to buy tickets separately at the pier.
Private Taxi
Private taxis from Hat Yai to Pak Bara cost around 1,200–1,500 THB (~$33–42 USD) for the whole vehicle. Worth considering for groups of 3–4, early morning departures, or travelers with a lot of luggage.
