Option 1: Overnight Bus Singapore to Penang (Most Popular)

Several operators (Starmart Express, Grassland Express, Five Stars) run overnight buses from Singapore\’s Golden Mile Complex or Lavender Bus Terminal to Penang\’s Sungai Nibong or Penang Sentral terminal — approximately 9–10 hours, fares from ~$25–40 SGD (~$18–30 USD). Departures from evening (~20:00–22:00), arriving Penang early morning. Comfortable VIP/executive coaches with wide reclining seats. The border crossing at Woodlands/JB adds ~1 hour. A great budget option — you wake up in Georgetown.

Option 2: Fly Singapore to Penang (Fastest)

AirAsia, Scoot, and Malaysia Airlines fly from Singapore Changi (SIN) to Penang Airport (PEN) — approximately 1 hour, fares from ~$40–100 USD. Multiple daily departures. Penang Airport is ~45 minutes from Georgetown by Grab (~RM 35–50). Fastest option — good if you\’re time-constrained or fares are cheap.

Option 3: Train Singapore to Penang (Scenic)

Take the KTM train from JB Sentral (walk across the Causeway from Woodlands, Singapore) north to Butterworth — approximately 8–9 hours including the border, fares from ~RM 40–80 (~$8–17 USD). The International Express from KL to Butterworth passes through — or take the ETS from JB. Scenic journey through Malaysian jungle and palm oil country. Then free Penang ferry to Georgetown.
